is need to compile native code?
Likely kernel too old

We build and test VoltDB on kernel 2.6.18 and up. VoltDB might work if you built from source, but it's not likely the binaries we ship for Linux will run on a SUSE 2.6.16 kernel.

We also don't officially support Java7, though from preliminary tests, I believe it should run and I don't *think* that is your issue.
