It sounds quite scary that crash recovery is not part of the Open Source community license. What does that mean exactly?

Thanks,

Hi,

It means you should run with replication and that if all replicas fail you will revert back to your most recent snapshot. You can run snapshots continuously if you want. Snapshots can be configured to write several hundred megabytes/sec so this usually means single digit minutes.

Thanks Ariel!

Are you describing the automatism of the commercial license? And the community edition would require to do what instead?

Hi,

Automated snapshots are part of the community edition. They are documented in the Using VoltDB guide (ChapCmdLog).

So you initially described the option for the Community Edition? Then what is the extra you are getting for the license version?

Thanks!

Henning,

Enterprise Edition adds the following features:

- Command-logging
- VoltDB Enterprise Manager (VEM)
- Database Replication (aka Cluster or WAN replication)
- Direct export to Hadoop

The Command-logging feature can provide full durability to disk by writing the stored procedure invocations to disk at each node before the transaction commits.

Using VoltDB
has a chapter on Command Logging here: (SaveSnapshotAuto)
