What happens when the database outgrows the node's memory ?

Does the database crash or does paging take place and it keeps going albeit at slower performance ?

Thanks.

VoltDB will first use all available main memory. When main memory is exhausted it will begin paging (if a page file exists) and run slower, eventually using all of the page file. At that point the server will fail.

It is very important to size the RAM of your VoltDB cluster for your use case, if you have a constantly inserting stream of data make sure you have an export (or delete) mechanism in your application.
