Voltdb tutorial: command not found

I am going thru the first volt db tutorial: http://voltdb.com/docs/tutorial/Part1.php

I successfully created and started the database.

I open a new terminal and type the following

prompt$sqlcmd
sqlcmd: command not found

Am I doing something wrong? Do I just need to add sqlcmd to the execution path? I am fairly new to linux.

Hi Abe,

Glad you found that. An optional step that I always do when I install VoltDB is to create a symlink directory "voltdb" and then I add the voltdb/bin directory to my PATH. This way, I can upgrade or switch between versions and editions of VoltDB easily. I just remove and re-create the symlink to point everything to the right folder.

For example:

cd $HOME
tar -xzvf LINUX-voltdb-3.6.tar.gz
ln -s voltdb-3.6 voltdb

Then I add "$HOME/voltdb/bin" to PATH, and never have to touch PATH again.

To switch to another version, I just remove and replace the symlink

cd $HOME
rm voltdb
ln -s voltdb-3.7 voltdb

Cheers,
Ben
